How Ashanti Home Touch Restaurant Served Me With A Broken Plate & Lost Me As A Customer Forever

The beauty of visiting Ghana when it comes to many people who reside abroad is to binge on the local foods that are so expensive outside Ghana—and do not even taste as good as those made and served in Ghana.

For some weird reason, I always feel food cooked at home tastes somewhat different to food being sold outside. Even if waakye is made at home for me, I would still want to eat the one being sold outside which will taste different in my mouth.

Perhaps it’s just a personal mind-condition but this means I eat a lot from outside anytime I am in Ghana or anywhere in the world—and to me, the best local Ghanaian foods are never served at the Golden Tulips, rather, from the local ‘road side’ restaurants.

The difference between eating Kenkey at Kempinski and from the streets is undeniably huge; even the pepper tastes different.

So during my recent trip to Ghana and while using Accra’s VIP bus lounge, I re-visited Ashanti Home Touch restaurant, situated inside the VIP compound for my brunch. And I went for their jollof rice and chicken—the last time I was there, I had their delicious Omo Tuo.

Apart from the fact that the waitress was busy eating first before wanting to even attend to us, my jollof rice was served with excessively dried chicken thigh. The food itself tasted as if it was from the day before. It was as if they had mixed yesterday’s left over with what they prepared today, hoping to sell the mix to their customers.

While complaining to the waitress about the strange-over-night taste, I realized the edges of the plate in which my food was served were all broken.

First of all, I was dealing with an unusual yet identifiable bad taste which made me paranoid about what I was eating. And considering how less the waitress cared when we entered the restaurant together with the broken plate,  thoughts about perhaps how unkempt the kitchen the food came from started running wild in my mind.

On the back of this, I lost my appetite. If Ashanti Home Touch can’t just be bothered to serve customers with clean and unbroken plates, something every eye can see—then what’s the possibility that they keep the unseen places where the food comes from tidy and in an unbroken state?

For this experience, I will never purchase anything from any Ashanti Home Touch restaurant, anywhere in Ghana. It is also an illustration that, just as it takes small things to steal the heart of customers; it equally takes little broken details like this to lose their business.

When this happened, I took to social media to write; “Ashanti Home Touch at the VIP lounge, Accra—is so posh that they serve you food in broken plates. What’s wrong with some Ghanaian restaurants?

How much is a common plate that it can’t be restocked! And when people stop patronising and the business collapses, they will blame Mahama.”

Following my social media post, a lady who works for one of the restaurant’s branches commented, apologizing for the obvious poor customer service.

But that was too late; when it comes to food in a country that has high annual cholera death toll and people are regularly food poisoned, I don’t grant second chances.

So I am forever done with Ashanti Home Touch Restaurant—surely, their service and touch are nothing like that of a real Ashanti…

Response from this Business to ‘CustomerDiscuss.Com’ team

We are waiting to see if they will have anything reasonable to say to this…

About CustomerDiscuss.Com:

Customer service in Ghana and most parts of Africa is the crappiest we’ve ever come across; as if Ghanaians or Africans use mango leaves to pay for services. The broadband never works, the electricity is never on, the water never flows—and the waitress can keep you waiting for your food until hunger kills your buds.

The real pain is, you have no alternative to turn to—because, like a gang of fools, they are all the same.

Almost every service and product delivering company in Africa has it butt in the faces of customers, farting uncontrollably because the customer cannot really do anything.  Mostly, if you quietly complain, they do nothing and if you are unlucky, they tell you to go f**k off.

Consumers have no voice, not even individual voices—let alone a collective one to force any sort of change.

So we’ve started this website-CustomerDiscuss.Com, supported by GhanaCelebrities.Com and other platforms, dedicated to corporate and public Africa, especially Ghana—-it’s time we shame some of these companies, tear down their lousy services, help them to lose customers and force them to do what’s right.

If you have a complaint about your telecom company, internet provider, a restaurant, your bank or even your church, shoot an email to us via; [email protected] or call/whatsapp 00447961817712.

When you go to a restaurant and you are served in a broken plate or on a dirty table, just take some photos and send them to us with the needed details.

Together, we can get these people to be accountable and importantly, do what’s expected of them.
