Social Media has for sometime been complaining about Airtel’s scratch-cards that keep tearing off when customers purchase them and want to redeem the rechargeable credits—and today, we have an irritated Airtel Customer-A. Osei, writing in to pour his frustrations out.
Per the below E-mail which one of CustomerDiscuss.Com’s editors has also confirmed, it has become peculiarly difficulty to load Airtel credit from the on sale scratch cards/papers because the designs are so soft that the moment you scratch them, they destroy the rechargeable numbers.
Once the numbers on the paper has been destroyed through the scratching, to redeem the credit via calling Airtel Ghana’s customer service becomes a herculean task.
This shouldn’t be happening; Airtel Ghana should just fix this—it isn’t that much of a big problem to change the texture and strength of the scratch papers such the needed digits do not destroy when a customer scratches.
Dear Customer Discuss,
First of all, let me commend you for this great initiative where you are giving customers who have been bruised and taken for granted by businesses to air their experiences and views. And also for other customers to learn and make decisions based on such experiences.
I am an Airtel customer, which I know sounds a little silly because of their many network problems and poor customer service.
Among all the Airtel Ghana’s annoying problems, the one I find intentional, somewhat instituted to frustrate the customer is how cheap, weak and soft their recharge card design has become.
Can you imagine buying a topup card, keen to quickly load it on your phone to make an important call and the moment you start scratching, the paper tears off or the digits rub away, destroying the rechargeable numbers on it.
The frustration can’t be put in words.
And then at this stage, you have to call Airtel Ghana to try and redeem this soft destroyed scratch paper—that’s going to take a whole one month for you to be receive this credit, if you are lucky.
This is unfortunate and not once, twice or three times, I have suffered this so many times no matter how careful I am when scratching the topup paper: it’s not about the strength used in scratching the paper as they say scratch gently, but it is because the paper is made so soft that it just tears or rubs off the numbers and yet no one at Airtel Ghana seems to care about this.
As an Airtel Ghana customer, I am upset that this continues to happen all the time.
Customers are frustrated and no one seems to care.

Customer service in Ghana and most parts of Africa is the crappiest we’ve ever come across; as if Ghanaians or Africans use mango leaves to pay for services. The broadband never works, the electricity is never on, the water never flows—and the waitress can keep you waiting for your food until hunger kills your buds.
The real pain is, you have no alternative to turn to—because, like a gang of fools, they are all the same.
Almost every service and product delivering company in Africa has it butt in the faces of customers, farting uncontrollably because the customer cannot really do anything. Mostly, if you quietly complain, they do nothing and if you are unlucky, they tell you to go f**k off.
Consumers have no voice, not even individual voices—let alone a collective one to force any sort of change.
So we’ve started this website-CustomerDiscuss.Com, supported by GhanaCelebrities.Com and other platforms, dedicated to corporate and public Africa, especially Ghana—-it’s time we shame some of these companies, tear down their lousy services, help them to lose customers and force them to do what’s right.
